From an evolutionary perspective, the body is not yet well adapted to this: in the past, people rarely reached the age at which wear and tear became a factor. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the case of osteoarthritis, the body often reacts with protective muscle tension around the joint. This is intended to provide stability, but often has the opposite effect: too much tension impedes blood flow, restricts movement and exacerbates the symptoms. <\/span><\/p><p><strong><span class=\"notion-enable-hover\" data-token-index=\"0\">Wear does not automatically mean pain<\/span><\/strong><br>Research shows that there is hardly any connection between the degree of wear and the amount of pain someone experiences. Many people function pain-free, even with advanced osteoarthritis.
