What is osteopathy in brief?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy in which we not only look at the location of the complaint, but at the person as a whole. The body constantly strives for balance. When something becomes unbalanced, it automatically adapts to create a new, workable situation. These compensations can remain unnoticed for years and manifest themselves in a completely different place than where the original disturbance was. Only when the body can no longer adapt do complaints arise. With osteopathy, we therefore look for the original source of the problem and only then treat the compensations (the symptoms).
During the osteopathic consultation, we examine the body as a whole, from foot to skull. We not only look at bones and muscles, but also involve the organs, connective tissue, blood and lymphatic vessels, and the nervous system, because all these structures can influence the development and maintenance of complaints.
During the treatment, we work with gentle manual techniques to influence the connective tissue, correct joints and relax or activate muscles. By tackling the underlying cause, space is created for recovery and the body can function better again.
Who is osteopathy for?
An osteopathy consultation is suitable for people of all ages: from babies and children to adults, the elderly and athletes. Because the body is approached as a whole, osteopathy can offer support for a wide range of complaints, both acute and chronic, even if they have existed for longer or if no clear medical cause has been found.
Even without specific complaints, osteopathy can help prevent disruptions. Preventive treatment supports recovery, keeps the body flexible and promotes optimal functioning.
In addition to the complaints described below, I also treat various other physical complaints. These include sports injuries, foot complaints, wrist complaints, jaw complaints, abdominal pain, constipation, bladder problems, hyperventilation, tinnitus, tingling, endometriosis, stress-related complaints and various forms of overuse.
REVIEWS
I had neck pain for years and had been looking for a good osteopath in Amsterdam for some time.
Through a friend I ended up with Bert, and after several sessions I finally noticed lasting improvement. He not only looked at the pain spot, but at the whole body and the parts that work together. As a result, the movement recovered and my neck felt much freer and more flexible.

Thanks to Bert, I recovered faster from my back pain and was able to play sports again. He looks beyond just the pain spot and looks for the real cause. His combination of osteopathy and physiotherapy has greatly helped me to fully recover from my sports injury.

Sports injury
After a difficult birth, we had many problems with our son. He cried a lot, drank restlessly and had abdominal complaints. Bert's gentle way of working immediately gave us confidence and ensured that our child could finally sleep better. After a short time there was clearly less tension and more peace in his body.

Abdominal pain
After my pregnancy, I continued to suffer from pelvic instability and pain during movement.
His treatment worked surprisingly fast. He worked very gently, yet with a remarkably powerful effect. My pelvis feels normal again, and I can move without pain once more.

Pelvic instability after pregnancy
I came to Bert with long-term shoulder and back complaints. During the first consultation, I immediately noticed that he has his own view of the human body; he looked beyond the complaint and at how structures work together. The osteopathy treatment was very different from other osteopaths: much more precise and targeted. Already during and immediately after the consultation I clearly noticed more relaxation and freedom of movement. For the first time in a long time, my shoulder and back felt really looser and pain-free.

Shoulder and back complaints
After a concussion, I continued to suffer from headaches, sleep problems and concentration problems.
Bert carefully investigated the underlying cause and helped reduce the tension in my neck and connective tissue.
It was remarkable how quickly my body began to recover: the complaints decreased and my energy slowly returned.
An osteopath in Amsterdam who really looks at the whole picture.
