for which sports-related complaints is osteopathy suitable?
Osteopathy is highly suitable for athletes, whether it involves preventing injuries, improving performance, or treating existing complaints. With osteopathy, we can detect problems in the body, often before you experience complaints or notice that your performance is declining.
Many sports-related complaints benefit from osteopathy, especially in combination with my additional manual techniques and expertise in NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT). With this approach, I quickly identify muscle weaknesses and joint problems and treat them effectively.
typical sports complaints where osteopathy can help:
-
Knee complaints such as meniscus problems or recovery after cruciate ligament surgery
-
Ankle sprains, where mobility often decreases. With specific techniques, joint position can be quickly optimized, thereby accelerating recovery
-
Hip, pelvic, and back complaints, often due to overuse or compensation
-
Shoulder complaints, which in many cases do not originate from the shoulder itself, but are caused by surrounding structures not functioning optimally
Osteopathy helps the body regain balance, allowing you to move more freely, be less injury-prone, and improve your athletic performance.
from imbalance to injury: the hidden risk in athletes
injuries throughout their career. This often creates imbalances in the body. Especially young people and elite athletes can initially easily cope with this by letting other parts of the body compensate. While this helps temporarily, these compensations can actually cause complaints or performance loss in the long term.
Often you barely notice this as an athlete: there is (still) no pain, but movements often become less powerful and less efficient – without you knowing exactly why. Old injuries can thus continue to influence your movement patterns and performance unnoticed, and ultimately cause new injuries.
examination: mapping the imbalance
This makes your body move more efficiently, transfers power better, and reduces the risk of injuries.
During the examination, I look at:
-
Muscle weakness
-
Loss of movement
-
Excessive muscle tension
-
Compensation patterns
These factors can influence your performance, cause complaints, and increase your injury susceptibility.
treatments: restoring balance
With targeted techniques, I improve:
-
The mobility of joints
-
The functioning of connective tissue
-
The control of muscles
This makes your body move more efficiently, transfers power better, and reduces the risk of injuries.
Performance improvement
In addition to injury treatment, my treatments are also highly suitable for performance improvement. Often, disrupted muscle control is the cause of performance loss. The body can – as a protective reaction to an (old) injury – choose to activate certain muscles less.
By finding out why a muscle is being inhibited, I can treat this inhibition specifically and reactivate the muscle. This way, the brain learns to use the muscle effectively again. The result is often immediately noticeable: more strength, better coordination, and a more efficient movement pattern.
