osteopathy for arthritis

What is osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is common and a logical consequence of aging. From an evolutionary perspective, the body is not yet well adapted to this: in the past, people rarely reached the age at which wear and tear became a factor.

In the case of osteoarthritis, the body often reacts with protective muscle tension around the joint. This is intended to provide stability, but often has the opposite effect: too much tension impedes blood flow, restricts movement and exacerbates the symptoms.

Wear does not automatically mean pain
Research shows that there is hardly any connection between the degree of wear and the amount of pain someone experiences. Many people function pain-free, even with advanced osteoarthritis. The pain usually arises because the nervous system sends out a warning signal — often due to incorrect loading or restricted movement.

With osteopathy, we can influence these signals: by reducing tension and restoring mobility, that alarm signal often disappears. Even with advanced wear, people can function without complaints again.

How does osteopathy help with arthritis?

what you can expect from the treatment

Even with severe wear, osteopathy can still offer relief. With the right stimulus, you will often see noticeable improvement in movement and pain level after just one treatment. As soon as the threat to the body decreases, the muscles relax, the strength increases, and the pain diminishes.

At Osteopathy ‘t Hart, I look beyond just the location of the pain. Together we search for the cause of your complaints and tailor the treatment to your body. Even with long-term problems, we often still see excellent results.

don't let arthritis determine your daily life

Even if you have already tried everything, there is often still a gain to be made once the body receives the right stimulus. Osteoarthritis does not have to remain a part of your daily life.
