WHEN SHOULD YOU SEE AN OSTEOPATH FOR A TENNIS ELBOW?

Do you have pain on the outside of your elbow and have already tried everything without lasting results? Then it may be beneficial to consult an osteopath for your tennis elbow to identify the underlying cause. Often, the cause does not lie solely in the elbow itself, which is why a holistic approach can be particularly effective.

During the examination, the body is assessed as a whole. Not only are the muscles of the arm examined, but also the joints, the tension in the connective tissue, the signals from the nervous system, and the cooperation within the kinetic chain. This clarifies where the strain originates and which factors are influencing the recovery of the elbow.

more than just
a tendon problem

Pain on the outside of the elbow is often referred to as tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). This complaint is common, but the cause is not always straightforward.

The old theory that a tennis elbow is primarily caused by tendonitis or wear and tear has since been debunked. Research shows that even people without symptoms often exhibit changes in the tendon. Furthermore, the complaints often persist much longer than one would expect from a simple tendon irritation.

Functional approach by an osteopath for tennis elbow

The cause of tennis elbow often lies not only in the elbow itself. Neck, upper back, shoulder, and first ribs all have a significant influence on the load on the elbow. Often, one of these areas plays an important role in the development of the complaints. By systematically examining and treating these regions, I usually see a clear improvement in elbow function quickly.

Additionally, there is a strong relationship between the elbow and the region below the ribs, where the kidneys are located. During early development, these structures were closer together and more strongly connected. Although they later end up in different parts of the body, a functional relationship remains. Increased tension in the connective tissue around the kidney region can therefore influence muscle tension and the load on the elbow. Treating this area can contribute to pain reduction and improved mobility.

As an osteopath, I look beyond just the painful area and examine the body as a whole. This results in a targeted approach that not only reduces symptoms but also contributes to the sustainable recovery of the elbow’s function.

What can you expect from osteopathy for a tennis elbow?

Even with long-term symptoms, significant improvement is often still possible. With the right stimulus, you will often notice a noticeable improvement in movement and pain level after just one treatment. As soon as the threat to the body decreases, the muscles relax, the strength increases, and the pain diminishes.

Don't let tennis elbow dictate your daily life

Even if you have already tried everything, there is often still progress to be made once the body receives the right stimulus. Tennis elbow doesn’t have to remain a part of your daily life.
