osteopath neck complaints

Osteopath treats neck complaints in practice

When should you see an osteopath for neck complaints?

Do you suffer from recurring neck complaints, constant tension in the neck, a suddenly stiff neck, radiating pain to the arm, or symptoms following an accident? An osteopath can help identify the underlying cause of these neck complaints.

I often see people with neck complaints who do not recover properly or keep returning. Through my method of examination, I can specifically trace the cause and treat the problem that stands in the way of recovery. The manual techniques I use work excellently for acute complaints: often one to two treatments are sufficient to significantly reduce or even resolve the complaints.

Neck complaints: often part of a chain
Neck complaints sometimes arise suddenly, for example when turning in bed or after a seemingly innocent movement. However, this is often preceded by an imbalance that has been present for a longer time. The neck then compensates for tensions or blockages elsewhere in the body, such as in the shoulders, upper back, jaw, or even the pelvis.

A disrupted cooperation between muscles also regularly plays a role. The deep, stabilizing neck muscles are less active, while the superficial muscles work too hard. This leads to overload and pain. This is usually not a matter of muscle weakness, but of incorrect control. Once that control is restored, strength often returns immediately.

chronic neck complaints: often no damage, but compensation

Prolonged neck pain does not automatically mean that something is “broken” in the neck. X-rays or MRIs often show abnormalities that occur just as frequently in people without complaints. In many cases, the cause therefore does not lie in structural damage, but in a disturbed balance in the body.

My approach to
neck complaints

I always look at the whole: not only at the neck itself, but also at tensions and imbalance elsewhere in the body.

Improving mobility

With gentle techniques, I restore the mobility of the cervical vertebrae.

Reducing tension

Connective tissue and tense muscles are relaxed.

Safe and subtle

Manipulations or 'cracking' are almost never necessary; the treatment is pain-free and tailored to your body.

What can you expect from the treatment?

Even with long-term neck complaints, we often still achieve good results. With acute complaints, recovery usually progresses quickly: often one to two treatments are sufficient. With long-term complaints, usually three to four treatments are needed to restore balance and permanently reduce the complaints.

Osteopathy for whiplash symptoms

After a whiplash, many people have long-term complaints, even when no damage is visible on an MRI. The body experiences the injury as trauma. The nervous system sounds the alarm and switches to protection: muscles around the neck tense up to prevent further damage.

A common source of persistent complaints is a disturbed position or function of the upper cervical vertebrae (C0–C1–C2). This can lead to headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, or concentration problems. By correcting these high cervical vertebrae in the right direction, clear improvements often occur within one to two treatments.

Restoration of safety

The most important goal is for the nervous system to experience again that movement is safe.

Recovery in movement

By making gentle corrections precisely within the painful movements, the alarm signal is turned off and the neck relaxes immediately.

Neural Reset Therapy (NRT)

With targeted muscle contractions, I give the nervous system the signal to release excessive muscle tension. This resets the old tension pattern and often provides quick relief.

What can you expect
with Whiplash?

Even with whiplash complaints, which often persist for a long time, I regularly see clear improvements. The duration of recovery varies per person and depends on factors such as the severity of the injury, the duration of the complaints, and how your body responds to the treatment. Sometimes you notice a difference after just one treatment, in other cases multiple sessions are needed. Usually it involves 2 to 5 treatments.

don't let neck pain determine your daily life

Even if you have already tried everything, there is often still a gain to be made once the body receives the right stimulus. Neck pain does not have to remain a part of your daily life.
