Osteopath hip complaints

When to see An osteopath for hip complaints?

Whether it concerns acute hip complaints due to an injury or strain, chronic pain, or issues following surgery or a hip replacement: an osteopath can often provide significant relief for hip complaints. This is because the cause of hip issues is rarely found in the hip alone.

Through careful examination, I identify the underlying cause of your hip complaints and treat them in a targeted manner. In addition to osteopathy, I use complementary techniques that are particularly effective for hip problems. Even with wear and tear, significant improvement is often still possible.

The hip as part of the movement chain
Hip complaints rarely stand alone. The function of the hip is constantly influenced by the pelvis, lower back, abdominal region, and even the feet. In practice, I often see that hip complaints actually originate from the lower back. The solution then usually lies not in the hip itself, but in another link in the movement chain.

Correction of the hip joint
In many people, the hip is not optimally positioned, causing uneven loading of the joint. The body responds with muscle tension to protect the joint. By correcting the position of the hip, this protective tension often disappears immediately, muscles relax, and strength increases almost instantly.

Muscle imbalance around the hip

With hip complaints, the muscles around the hip often do not work well together. This causes incorrect loading of the joint and leads to complaints. Using special tests, I identify which muscles are disrupting each other. Once this is restored, you usually notice less pain and more freedom of movement quickly.

osteopathy for hip arthritis

Even with arthritis, there is often an underlying cause, such as reduced mobility in the back, pelvis, or ankle.

Research shows there is little correlation between the degree of wear and the amount of pain people experience. Even with a ‘worn’ hip, you can often still move freely without pain.

Pain usually occurs when the nervous system sends a protective signal, for example because the joint is not moving properly or muscle tension is too high. When mobility improves and tension decreases, complaints often largely disappear.

By correcting the position of the shoulder, this alarm signal often disappears. The result: muscles relax and strength increases almost immediately.

How does osteopathy help with hip arthritis?

osteopathy after hip surgery

Osteopathy is also valuable after hip surgery. Often the position of the hip changes slightly, for example because the operated leg becomes longer. This requires the rest of the body to adapt.

With osteopathy, I help the muscles, fascia, and joints around the hip work together properly again. This reduces tension, stiffness, and compensations. Often one treatment per month is sufficient to guide recovery.

The best results are achieved in combination with physiotherapy. Exercise therapy remains essential for strength, stability, and functionality of the new hip.

Don't let hip complaints determine your daily life

Even if you have already tried everything, there is often still improvement to be gained as soon as the body receives the right stimulus. Hip complaints do not have to remain part of your daily life.
